Delta Sigma Theta History in Chicago
1913
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University by 22 college students.
1921
The first seed of Delta Sigma Theta was planted by sorority Founders Osceola Macarthy Adams and Marguerite Young Alexander, who assisted in the organization of Lambda Chapter at the University of Chicago.
1922
4th National Convention held in Chicago.
1924
Chartering of second Chicago Delta Chapter, Theta Sigma.
1929
Anna Johnson Julian elected 4th National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Julian held in membership in Chicago Alumnae Chapter.
1931
Lambda initiate, Gladys Bryham Sheppard elected 5th National President. The same year, Lambda Chapter was designated undergraduate.
1933
12th National Convention held in Chicago. The same year, Chicago native and Lambda initiate, Jeanette Triplett Jones elected 6th National President.
1934
Chicago Deltas Jeanette Triplett Jones and Eileen T. Marks (both initiated in Lambda) design the Sorority Crest.
1949
Chartering of third Chicago Chapter, Gamma Chi Sigma.
1952
Chicago Deltas play instrumental role in the establishment of the first sorority house at the University of Illinois, (Champaign, Urbana)
1959
Gamma Chi Sigma and Theta Sigma merge to form the Chicago Alumnae Chapter
1960
26th National Convention held in Chicago.
1970
Midwest Regional Conference held in Chicago.
1984
Midwest Regional Conference held in Chicago.
1989
D’Estee, Inc 501 (c)(3) arm of Chicago Alumnae Chapter was established.
1992
Purchased the facility located at 4525 S. King Drive in Chicago, IL.

1995
The 4525 s. King Dr. portion of the D’Estee building named The Marian Huffman Room.
1998
The Chicago Alumnae Step Team win the National Championship at the New Orleans National Convention.
1999
The Mortgage of the D’Estee, Inc. building is burned.
2000
The 45th National Convention is held in Chicago.
2003
Chicago Alumane member, Darlene Pollard is elected Midwest Regional Director.
2007
Chicago Alumnae celebrates the 100th birthday of Dorothy Penman Harrison, 11th National President and Chicago Alumnae member. Deborah Jones Buggs is elected Chair of the National Finance Committee.
2009
Chicago Alumnae Chapter celebrates 50 years of service in the Chicago area.
