Domestic Violence S.A.V.E.
It shall be the duty of this committee to provide education in an effort to prevent domestic violence. Additionally, this committee shall encourage and seek to offer solutions for those affected by the devastating societal affliction of domestic violence.
Facts:
-In a recent year in the city of Chicago, there were 206,279 domestic violence related calls to the Chicago Police Department. Taking note of the national statistics that one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and every nine seconds a woman is physically abused by her husband.
-One in six women and one in thirty-three men have experienced a completed or attempted rape. Statistically speaking, college-age women are four times more likely to be sexually assaulted than any other age group.
-Nationally, 2 million women are assaulted by male partners every year and every day, 4 women and 3 children die as a result of abuse.
-Globally, the statistics are even more extreme. In a study conducted by the World Health Organization, they found that as many as 20-88% of women respondents stated that they had been abused by a domestic partner.
