The Scholarship Committee of Chicago Alumnae Chapter develops and administers the scholarship programs of the chapter.
Annually, the Chicago Alumnae Chapter provides college scholarships to students of the various Chicago area high schools. Many of the scholarship are renewable and vary in amounts. Scholarship are both privately funded and generated through various fundraising efforts of the Chapter. Scholarships are awarded based on need and academic achievement.
The Scholaship Committee of Chicago Alumnae Chapter will award $31,275 to the thirty-five eligible 2009 Fall Term recipients. This year’s recipients include 35 (10 males and 25 females)undergraduates selected from 25 Chicago Public High Schools and now attending 25 universities. They represent two-4th year students, seven 3rd year students, six 2nd year students and twenty 1st year students. Three of the recipients are former Chicago Alumnae Delta GEM participants. Twenty-seven are annual renewable awards ranging from $500 to $4,000. Four are $500 one-time only book awards and four are $825 one-time only Marea Rivers awards. In addition, the committee funds a $4,000 Patricia Counce Memorial Scholarship at the University of Illinois, Chicago Jane Addams School of Social Work, an award provided for an African American female masters level student.
The Scholarship Committee participated in the Chicago Public Schools annual College Scholarship Informational Sessions held on September 23 & 24, 2009.
