Economic Development
The mission of the Economic Development Committee of the Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is to educate and empower the community, to achieve economic stability and financial freedom.
By supporting national economic development initiatives such as Financial Fortitude: Smart Women Finish Rich, and The Delta Homeownership Challenge, the committee is responsible for encouraging the masses to take charge of their financial health.
The Economic Development Committee has organized, hosted and participated in past events such as:
- Empowerment fairs
- Career fairs
- Entrepreneurial fairs
- Homeownership fairs
- Professional networking events
- Back-to-school supplies/book bags drives
- Free dental exams
- Free income tax preparation
We are pleased to have received corporate sponsorship from Exelon, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Xerox Capital Services, LLC, and Colgate. We continuously seek additional corporate sponsors and community partners to assist in offering much needed economic development programs in the Chicago-land community.
During our current 2012-2013 fiscal year we are taking everyone on a Journey Toward Financial Freedom. There are 3 phases to the journey:
Phase I – Financial Preparation which includes saving money, debt reduction and elimination and wills, trusts and estate planning.
Phase II – Plan in Motion. In this phase we education on finding a job, entrepreneurship, community development, going green and saving on your taxes. We will be having a job fair and assisting with free tax preparation.
Phase II – Growth and Development. Now that you have the tools needed, we will work with you to learn about investments, home ownership, credit, avoiding foreclosure, financial planning and wealth building.
Our goal this year to reach at least 2013 people during the year 2013. You can assist by viewing our workshops online and telling everyone you know to do the same.
