An International Awareness Festival…

 

Chicago—The Chicago Alumnae Chapter (CAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosts an International Awareness Festival! The festival is being held on Saturday, May 22nd from 2pm-5pm at D’Estee, Inc. 4525 South King Drive in Chicago. The International Awareness Festival will celebrate and raise public awareness about global relations, feature a panel discussion and offer a vendors marketplace. The event is free and open to the public.
 
Spearheaded by Angela O’Banion, Fannie Blake and Belvia Strickland, co-chairs of the chapter’s International Committee, the festival will feature panelists from around the world including Asia, South America, and Africa in a discussion of global economic and health issues. Representatives from Operation ASHA-Fighting Tuberculosis in India and Worldwide, Chicago Public Schools-Chinese Languages, Center for Self Improvement and the Venezuelan Consulate of Chicago will be present.
 
The International Festival will offer participants the opportunity to sample international cuisine and shop the many vendors as they showcase and sell items including clothing and jewelry. Proceeds will benefit Haiti earthquake victims and will assist in CAC’s efforts to build a water well in Africa.
 
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private non-profit organization founded in 1913. Its goals are directed toward the provision of services and programs that promote human welfare. The membership exceeds 200,000 predominately African American, college educated women in more than 1000 chapters, located in 44 states and several foreign countries.
 
The Chicago Alumnae Chapter boasts a membership of more than 700 professional women rendering public service under the sorority’s five point program thrust– economic development; educational development; international awareness and involvement; political awareness and involvement and physical and mental health.
